Welcome to the Township of Lyons Chronicle

By Alex Murphy – Editor In Chief of the Township of Lyons Chronicle

Welcome to the Township of Lyons Chronicle, an entirely intern-run newspaper!

In January 2026, Clerk Elyse Hoffenberg told me her idea of starting a township-wide newspaper as a part of the Township of Lyons Summer Internship Program, and I was immediately intrigued. As a journalism student at the University of Illinois, I understand the importance of producing high-quality content that keeps the community informed.

The Township of Lyons Chronicle seeks to do exactly that, keep residents of the township throughout all villages and towns informed. We intend to cover what makes this township unique, ranging from events at SeatGeek Stadium to small businesses on La Grange Road, reporting the truth and highlighting what everyone brings to the township community to make it great.

As editor in chief, I seek to not only strengthen the community in the township through this paper, but also help my staff grow. Having both high school and college students, everyone brings something unique to the table and can learn from each other while producing a paper they are proud of.

Throughout this summer, intern staff writers will be collaborating with the media internship team, conducting interviews together and developing their skills relating to the media world and communication. Some of the stories produced in this newspaper will correspond to visual components produced by the media team. Residents of the township will be able to read stories, but also see clips and on-camera interviews related to said stories.

By the end of the summer, we hope to have produced a strong newspaper that has a wide range of stories, from storm damage to village highlights to restaurant spotlights and more. Interns will conduct research, do interviews and attend events as they work to produce high-quality content that is something they can be proud of and the public can enjoy reading.
